The guides, calculators and answers on this site are written to help people make informed borrowing decisions. Here is how we keep them accurate.
Reviewed by a licensed professional
Loan program pages and help center answers are reviewed by Juan Fernando Romero, a licensed mortgage loan originator (NMLS ID 2557318). Each page shows the date it was last reviewed.
Sources
We rely on primary sources: the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the Federal Housing Finance Agency, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac selling guides, and published lender guidelines.
Ranges, not offers
Requirements such as minimum credit scores, down payments and loan-to-value limits are shown as typical market ranges. Actual terms depend on the lender, the borrower and the property, and are confirmed on a Loan Estimate or term sheet.
Calculators
Every calculator shows the formula it uses. Results are estimates for comparison only.
Independence
We do not accept payment for placement or rankings on this site.
